EBK, Turkey’s Meat & Fish Institute Seeking Franchisees

etbalikTurkey’s Meat and Fish Institute, or EBK, the state-run meat company which eyes to gain in retail business along with meat production, is seeking franchisees in eight cities across Turkey, according to an announcement by the company Monday.

An initial process of collecting applications for 100 branches in 17 cities failed in Istanbul, İzmir, Bursa, Eskişehir, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Mersin and Samsun due to lack of adequate demand, the statement said.

The new round of applications will be collected by EBK until May 10.

The stores that win EBK contracts should be located on crowded central streets and larger that 80 square meters, according to the statement. A document presenting the detailed requirements is sold by EBK for 50 Turkish Liras.

As of Monday, the company received 480 applications since February and around 60 contracts were signed. Only two EBK franchise stores, both in the capital city of Ankara, have been opened.

The entry fee for the contracted investors is 100,000 liras in Istanbul, 80,000 liras in Ankara and İzmir, and 60,000 liras in other cities.

The franchisees will benefit from between 8 and 15 percent discount in prices in addition to free transportation.
