ERDOGAN STATEMENT ABOUT TALIBAN AND KABUL

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced Turkey’s terms for the operation of Kabul airport in Afghanistan. Speaking after the Eid al-Adha prayers at the Hala Sultan Mosque in Nicosia, Erdogan said: “If our conditions can be met, we, as Turkey, intend to consider the operation of Kabul airport.”

Erdogan listed the three requirements requested from the United States as follows:

    • At the point of diplomacy, the U.S. will be on our side in diplomatic relations.
    • The U.S. will mobilize their opportunities for us at the point of logistics, whatever power they have regarding logistics, they will transfer it to Turkey.
    • And there will be financial and administrative problems. At this point, the U.S. will give the necessary support to Turkey.

Talks with the Taliban

Erdogan said that they were considering taking over the operation of Kabul airport if these conditions were met and noted talks would be held with the Taliban, who have recently continued their progress in Afghanistan. “There is some discomfort expressed by the Taliban. By doing some negotiations with the Taliban, just as they did negotiations with the United States, they should probably make these negotiations with Turkey much more comfortable. Turkey has nothing wrong with their faith.”
