The European Union Travel Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control has said today that the lifting of the mask requirement will be effective from May 16.

European Union officials have announced that the obligation to wear masks at airports and airplanes will be lifted starting next week as the Covid-19 pandemic eases.

European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), said they hoped this decision they took together with European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, was a big step for both passengers and crew in terms of normalization of airline travel.

According to Euronews, the joint statement noted that the new directive took into account the latest developments in the pandemic, in particular the high level of immunity disposed of through vaccination and natural means, as well as the increase in the number of countries lifting restrictions in European countries.

NEW APPLICATION WILL TAKE EFFECT FROM MAY 16

EASA executive director said “passengers will still be responsible and obliged to respect the choices of others passengers” and warned to use a face mask when a passenger coughed or sneezed, for the safety of occupants in the seats near to said passenger.
