Experts warn: sixth wave in Covid-19 is at our doorstep

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ceyhan from Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, said that the sixth wave of the pandemic had also reached Turkey, and the number of cases would gradually increase.

Ceyhan, who likened Omicron to the ‘Trojan horse of the corona virus’, said: “It entered society as a harmless mutant. People were relieved, precautions were abandoned. Many variants, such as 1-2-3-4, started the sixth wave in the world.”

He went on to note following, “The course of the epidemic is not proceeding in a straight line. The graph formed by everyday cases is wavy, like the sea surface. First, the cases are increasing, reaching the highest point. Then the decrease begins. And it draws a straight line after that. When the mutant variant appears, it makes waves again. Turkey has experienced five such waves so far. But when the last wave weakened, despite all the warnings of the relevant experts, all measures were lifted at short intervals. So the pandemic was left on its own and vaccination came to a standstill. So we were caught unprepared for the sixth wave.”
