NATO countries will call on Sweden and Finland to join the union

STOLTENBERG NATO SECRETARY

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg who said that Turkey would support the membership of Finland and Sweden, noted that the leaders of NATO countries would now take a decision, to invite Sweden and Finland to join NATO.

After the meeting in NATO summit, it was announced that Turkey would support the application for membership of Sweden and Finland. Finland and Sweden had decided to apply to NATO by ending their policy of military neutrality after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Turkey, which has a veto on the issue like the other 30 countries in NATO, had objection against membership of said countries.

After the meeting Stoltenberg said, “I am pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement that paves the way for Finland and Sweden to join NATO.”

Asked how the decision to invite Finland and Sweden to join NATO sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the NATO secretary general said, “Every nation has the right to choose its own path soon.” Stoltenberg Also said ’Finland and Sweden will amend their national laws, take measures against PKK activities and agree with Turkey on the extradition of criminals, in return for which Turkey will support the NATO membership of the two countries’.


THE INVITATION DECISION IS TOMORROW

Asked whether Sweden and Finland should be invited to NATO at tomorrow’s summit meeting, Stoltenberg said: “Tomorrow, the leaders of the allied countries will take a decision to invite Sweden and Finland to join NATO. After this summit, Finland and Sweden will be the countries invited to join.”

The NATO secretary general then reminded that there was an approval process in the assemblies of all member states.
