Joint statement signed after summit between Turkey, Sweden, Finland and NATO

NATO SUMMIT TURKEY FINLAND SWEDEN

A memorandum was signed after President Erdogan met with Finnish President Niinistö, Swedish Prime Minister Andersson and NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg. In a statement made by Presidential sources about the memorandum, it was noted that concrete steps had been taken on ‘full cooperation with Turkey in the fight against the PKK and its extensions’.

The four-way meeting, which was attended by AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, Swedish Prime Minister Magdelena Andersson and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, lasted 2 hours. The summit was held in Madrid.

TRIPLE MEMORANDUM FROM TURKEY, SWEDEN AND FINLAND

After the two-stage meeting, a trilateral memorandum was signed between Turkey, Sweden and Finland on the NATO membership processes of Finland and Sweden. Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde signed the memorandum.

The signing ceremony at the IFEMA Exhibition Center in Madrid, where the NATO Summit was held, was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Finland Sauli Niinisto, Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson.

NATO STATEMENT

After joint memorandum between Turkey, Finland and Sweden was signed NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said “Sweden and Finland have pledged their full support to Turkey.” Stoltenberg noted that it was not clear exactly when Finland and Sweden would become members of NATO, but it would be a quick process.

Stoltenberg also noted that Sweden’s and Finland’s membership in NATO was the opposite of what Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted. Stoltenberg stressed Dec there should be no arms embargo between the allies.
