The destruction caused by the two Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes in 10 provinces are getting heavier every day. According to the latest data, 18 thousand 342 people lost their lives in the earthquakes, 74 thousand 242 people were injured. This figure has exceeded the number recorded in terrible earthquake on August 17, 1999 in Marmara region.

According to the latest official data announced as of 08:30 on February 10th 2023, 18 thousand 342 people lost their lives and 74 thousand 242 people were injured in Turkey, which was shaken by two large earthquakes of 7.7 and 7.6 centered in Kahramanmaraş.

A statement by AFAD said, “A total of 18,342 citizens lost their lives in Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adiyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazig and 74,242 citizens were injured.”

24 years ago, on August 17, 1999, a total of 17,480 people had lost their lives and 43,953 people were injured in a 7.4 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was the Gölcük district of Kocaeli and lasted for 75 seconds. According to the latest data, the number of casualties exceeded the 17 August earthquake.
