FOREST FIRE IN MARMARIS

The response to the fire that broke out in Marmaris last night continues. As the weather brightened, 14 aircraft and 20 helicopters started to fight the flames from the air. “It’s 90 percent sabotage, because the fire started simultaneously at three separate points,” said Marmaris Mayor Mehmet Oktay.

The fire, which started at 20:00 last night, continued in Hisaronu neighborhood of Marmaris district of Muğla. In the morning, the aerial extinguishing works by plane and helicopter started again. The wind, which lost its effect in the morning, is expected to strengthen again at noon.

The burning site was under heavy smoke, while the flames decreased in intensity after aircraft and helicopters made intensive sorties.

Due to the heavy smoke that started in the Bördubet neighborhood and reached the Hisaronu bay at one end and the Değirmenyani neighborhood at the other end, the viewing distance was decreased.

MAYOR OF MARMARIS: 90 PERCENT SABOTAGE

Marmaris Mayor Mehmet Oktay made a statement saying ”90 percent sabotage, because the fire started simultaneously at three separate points. The fact that untouched areas and especially pine honey-friendly environments have been destroyed in this region has caused great sadness in the district.”

4 KILOMETERS FROM THE SETTLEMENTS

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry who made a statement earlier in the morning, said, “At the moment there is a distance of 3.5- 4 kilometers to settlements. Since the moment the fire started, the road-opening works to bring it under control are also being carried out by our forest teams.”
