FOREST FIRES IN TURKEY

A fire broke out in a wooded area in the Marmaris district of Mugla. Air and ground intervention to the fire began immediately.

A fire started in a forested area in the Hisaronu neighborhood of Bördubet in Marmaris for a reason not yet determined. The flames spread in a short time owing to the wind.

Helicopters affiliated to Mugla Forest Regional Directorate, as well as land surveyors, construction equipment and a large number of forest workers are responding to the fire. Crews are making intensive efforts to contain the fire, which is growing rapidly under the influence of the wind.

However, the crews were not able to control the fire because no intervention was possible from the air as it got dark. Ground extinguishing works are continuing.

While reinforcements from the surrounding provinces were sent to the fire zone, the airborne intervention was stopped. Marmaris Mayor Mehmet Oktay said on his social media account,”Unfortunately, the airborne intervention before dark is not being carried out at the moment. Our only request is that night-vision helicopters be sent to the region urgently.”
