Flames in Marmaris fire are moving towards Okluk Bay

The fire, which started last night in the Hisaronu neighborhood of Bördubet in the Marmaris district of Muğla, is continuing. The flames are heading towards Okluk Bay, where the summer palace built by the Presidency is also located.

In an effective forest fire in an area of more than 200 hectares, the advancing flames began to threaten settlements in Hisaronu District, Değirmenyani district, Ahmediye Sokak.

A total of 29 animals, 10 chickens, 1 cat and 5 vehicles with a total of 68 people and large and small cattle in 20 houses in the region were evacuated as a precaution.

The flames were concentrated in the Karaağaç Hill area of Bördubet district. Airborne intervention was interrupted for half an hour due to dense smoke.

FLAMES MOVING TOWARDS PRESIDENTIAL SUMMER PALACE

The fact that the speed of the wind reached 45 kilometers per hour also gave the ground crews a hard time. Crews are continuing to work to prevent the flames heading towards Okluk Bay, where the Presidential State Guesthouse, also known as the Summer Palace, is located.

MAYOR OF MARMARIS: 90 PERCENT SABOTAGE

Marmaris Mayor Mehmet Oktay made a statement saying, ”90 percent sabotage, because the fire started simultaneously at three separate points.” The fact that untouched areas and especially pine honey-friendly environments have been destroyed in this region has caused great sadness in the district.
