“Forest Fire in Muğla” brought under control

In Bodrum, the forest fire that broke out was brought under control after about 18 hours of aerial and ground interventions. The forest fire in Muğla’s Bodrum district was brought under control with air and ground interventions.

The fire, which was brought under control as of 06:00 this morning, began cooling efforts at dawn with 5 planes, 4 helicopters, forest water tenders, and workers.

In the initial stage, 8 planes, 10 helicopters, 120 forest water tenders, more than 30 fire trucks, 1 National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) vehicle, 2 ambulances, 5 TOMA vehicles belonging to the gendarmerie and police, 16 water tankers, and 500 personnel were deployed to combat the fire, whose cause has not yet been determined.

FIRE FIGHTERS FALL ASLEEP ON TOP OF WATER TENDERS

Cooling efforts, which began from the air and ground this morning, were captured by SÖZCÜ cameras. The forest workers, who fought the flames all night, fell asleep on top of the water tenders they were responsible for. Some personnel slept in the trailers of trucks.

KAPLAN MOUNTAIN TURNS BLACK

The extent of the disaster on Kaplan Mountain, which is home to some of the region’s most important pine forests, became apparent at dawn. The lush green forests turned black. After the wind weakened, forest teams, machinery, planes, and helicopters that had come from surrounding provinces and districts began to return as of 08:00 this morning.

The gendarmerie has launched an investigation into the fire.
