TRAFFIC IN ANTALYA

Former MP’s report suggests that Antalya has become a city that extends 150 kilometers from its center to the east. The highest vehicle traffic in Antalya, measuring 79,400, occurred during the 2023 Eid al-Adha, with 40% of it consisting of vehicle movements between Kemer-Konyaaltı-Kepez-Muratpaşa-Aksu-Serik-Belek-Manavgat-Alanya-Gazipaşa. Only the number of vehicles between the airport and Belek accounts for 15% of the total (12,000).

According to the study, 40% of traffic is generated by tourism, 30% by agriculture, and 30% by general services and professional transportation. Experts believe that, for these reasons, a new road, the ‘Divided Transit Road,’ with a cost of 1.2 billion euros, is more suitable than the 4.5 billion euros YİD Motorway.

Regarding the traffic issues, the former MP said, “About 75% of the total population in Antalya lives along this route. Antalya-Alanya transportation faces difficulties not only for airport-hotel tourist transportation but also for general tourism, seed and greenhouse productions in agriculture, trade, banking, general professions, etc. Although the General Directorate of Highways recommends a toll motorway from the north of the region, when the problem is analyzed in detail, it is revealed that the motorway alone is not the best solution and, on the contrary, has the potential to create different problems. To contribute to solving the problem well and permanently, the study suggests that other alternative solutions, such as the ‘Divided Transit Road’ and simultaneous solutions like “Alanya Rail” for daily professional transport, are needed.”

The report also provides solution suggestions:

– The Divided Transit Road Döşemealtı-Alanya can be constructed in the 180-kilometer corridor planned for the motorway.
– The Antalya Airport-Belek-Titreyen Göl (50 km) tourism road, which has been waiting for construction for ten years, will solve 15% of the current transportation problem. It can be completed and opened to service in two years with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (budget) and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality (construction).
– The unfinished Northern Ring Road Döşeme Altı-Aksu-Y.K. bed line can be completed in one year.
– A Rail System (Marmaray Example), serving as a “wholesale market exit station” in the Kepez district, can be opened to service in five years with the YİD model for transportation from Aksu-Serik-Manavgat-Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport. (Passenger count: 50,000/day). If existing rail systems integrate into this point, a provincial network will be formed.
– The existing Alanya Road and 20 FS Intersection can be built within three years. (TG)
