The free natural gas scheme, up to 25 standard cubic meters (Sm3) in residential properties, will end on May 1st. This will automatically lead to increases in bills.

The Presidential Decree on “System Utilization Fees for Natural Gas Consumption” was published in the Official Gazette on May 1st last year.

With this decree, the full system utilization fees for the first billing periods from April 24, 2023, to May 31, 2023, of residential, places of worship, and Alevi worship houses were covered from the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry budget, and the system utilization fees for natural gas consumption up to 25 Sm3 in subsequent bills until May 1, 2024, were covered by the state.

Under this decree, the entire first bills were paid by the state. After that, the usage fees up to 25 Sm3 were covered in the budget. This practice is coming to an end. There has been no discussion of an extension according to the decree. This will lead to an increase in citizens’ bills after the autumn as consumption rises.
