HEROIN OPERATION IN BULGARIA

Bulgarian authorities confiscated 500 kilograms of heroin from Iran, stored among marble slabs, while a special prosecutor detained two Turkish citizens in connection with the incident.

Prosecutor Valentina Madzharova said the drugs had arrived at the Port of Varna in four containers and were then transferred to a warehouse in the southern city of Sliven.

“Here we are talking about a drug route where heroin of Iranian origin is transferred to Western Europe,” Madzharova said.

She added that 3 to 4 kilograms of high-quality heroin had been placed in the cavities inside each marble slab, thus calculating that the total heroin seized was more than 500 kilograms.

HEROIN WORTH 16 MILLION DOLLARS

The seized heroin had a market value of about $ 16 million.

The prosecutor said two Turkish citizens detained and charged with drug trafficking had been arrested as a result of a four-month investigation, co-operating with Bulgarian, European Union and US authorities.

More than 400 kilograms of heroin was seized on a container ship from Dubai in February in Bulgaria, on a shipping route that sends drugs from Asia and the Middle East to the west.
