President Erdoğan’s visit to Athens today is expected to open a new chapter in Turkey-Greece relations. It has been revealed that as a goodwill gesture, the Athens Administration plans to reintroduce a 7-day tourist visa for Turkish citizens. Greece obtained permission for this step from the European Commission.

Erdoğan met with his Greek counterpart Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. This high-level contact between Ankara and Athens is expected to mark a new beginning between the two countries after years of tension.

In an interview with the Greek newspaper Kathimerini before his visit to Athens, President Erdoğan stated, “There is no problem we cannot solve through dialogue based on mutual goodwill.” It is expected that during the talks, agreements will be signed on various issues, including a joint declaration and cooperation in areas such as economy, health, education, migration, and tourism.

According to Reuters, Greece has obtained permission from the European Union Commission to reintroduce a 7-day tourist visa for Turkish citizens for 10 islands near the Turkish coast.
