Head of the Bread Producers Union detained for insulting Turkish nation

BREAD PRODUCER DETAINED IN TURKEY

The head of the Bread Producers Union, Cihan Kolivar, was detained on the charge of “insulting the Turkish nation, the state, institutions and organs of the state” because of the statements he used in a television program.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has officially launched an investigation against Cihan Kolivar for “publicly insulting the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the judicial organs of the State” in accordance with Article 301/1 of the Turkish Criminal Code.

As part of the investigation, Kolivar, who was detained as a suspect on the instructions of the prosecutor general’s office, continues to be processed by the police.

WHAT DID CIHAN KOLIVAR SAY?

Cihan Kolivar, the president of the Bread Producers Union, had said in a television program he participated in, “Bread is the basic food of stupid societies. Because our society eats much bread, these politicians have been administering this country like this, for 20 years.”
