Statement from Ministry on claim of carcinogenic substances in spices

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has made a statement regarding the allegations that carcinogenic substances were found in Turkish-branded spice products sent to Singapore.

Singapore announced that a carcinogenic substance had been detected in a spice brand exported from Turkey. Upon this, it was decided to collect the packages belonging to the company.

A statement came from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on the issue.

“In the examination carried out by the General Directorate of Food and Control, it has been determined that the company in question does not have a direct export application from our country to Singapore,” the statement said.

AUDIT INITIATED REGARDING THE ISSUE

The statement said there was no official notification from Singapore regarding the detection of banned coloring matter. The statement also said, “Our Ministry has accepted the news in question as reporting and initiated inspections for the company and its products, throughout the country.”

PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE IN DOMESTIC PRODUCTS AS WELL

It was noted In inspections conducted in July and May coloring substances were detected in products offered by the company for sale.

A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT HAS BEEN FILED

On top of this, it was stated that a criminal complaint had been filed against the company to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and that the products in question had been collected from the market.
