Due to severe winter weather and heavy snowfall, schools have been closed for Monday in 10 provinces and districts across Turkey. Governorates issued consecutive announcements citing snow accumulation, freezing temperatures, and ice risk as the main reasons for suspending education.

Snow and Ice Disrupt Education Nationwide

Adverse weather conditions have led to a one-day suspension of education on Monday, December 29, in Bolu, Zonguldak, Muş, Bitlis, Yozgat, Karabük, Düzce, Van, Şırnak’s Beytüşşebap district, and Kastamonu’s Küre district. Local authorities emphasized student safety as snowfall and icy conditions continue to affect transportation and daily life.

Yozgat: Selected Districts Affected

The Yozgat Governor’s Office announced that education would be suspended for one day in Akdağmadeni, Sarıkaya, Çayıralan, and Çandır due to low temperatures, intermittent snowfall, and widespread icing.

Bolu: Snow Depth Exceeds 20 Centimeters

In Bolu, where heavy snowfall has continued for two days, education has been suspended across the entire province. Snow depth in the city center exceeded 20 centimeters, prompting intensified snow-clearing efforts. The governorate also granted administrative leave to pregnant and disabled public employees, as well as mothers with children attending nurseries, kindergartens, or special education institutions, except for personnel working in essential services such as health and security.

Karabük: One-Day Break Announced Province-Wide

The Karabük Governor’s Office confirmed that all public and private educational institutions, including special education and rehabilitation centers, would remain closed for one day due to ongoing snowfall and adverse weather conditions. Pregnant and disabled public employees were also placed on administrative leave.

Muş: Risk of Icing Remains High

The Muş Governorate stated that education would be suspended throughout the province as heavy snowfall and icing risks persist. The decision applies to all formal and non-formal education institutions, excluding universities. Pregnant, disabled, chronically ill public employees and mothers with children in nurseries and kindergartens were granted administrative leave.

Bitlis: Safety Measures Take Priority

In Bitlis, authorities suspended education for one day following meteorological warnings of locally intense snowfall. The closure covers all schools, kindergartens, Quran courses, special education institutions, and rehabilitation centers. Administrative leave was also granted to pregnant employees, disabled staff, parents of children aged 0–6, and public employees with chronic illnesses.

Kastamonu’s Küre District: Face-to-Face Education Paused

The Küre District Governorate in Kastamonu announced a one-day suspension of in-person education due to ongoing snowfall and meteorological alerts. Pregnant and disabled public employees were also placed on administrative leave.

Şırnak’s Beytüşşebap District: Precautionary Closure

In Beytüşşebap, heavy snowfall prompted local authorities to suspend education for one day to prevent risks related to icing and freezing. The decision applies to all public and private schools across the district.

Zonguldak: Storm, Rain, and Snow Combined

Zonguldak Governorate announced that education would be suspended due to a combination of stormy weather, rain, and snow expected to intensify from the morning hours. The closure also includes nurseries, daycare centers, rehabilitation facilities, and all scheduled electronic exams. Pregnant and disabled public employees were placed on administrative leave.

Van: Snow, Ice, and Fog Disrupt Daily Life

In Van, education was suspended for one day following assessments by the Regional Meteorology Directorate. All public and private educational institutions, including public education centers and rehabilitation facilities, were affected. Pregnant and disabled public employees, as well as mothers with children aged 0–6, were granted administrative leave.

Düzce: Authorities Urge Caution

Düzce Governorate suspended education for one day due to ongoing snowfall and the increased risk of icing. Pregnant, disabled, and malnourished public employees, along with mothers of children attending nurseries and kindergartens, were placed on administrative leave. Authorities urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
