‘Icelandic cold’ is coming to Turkey: snowfall warning for Istanbul and Ankara

Turkey will experience the ‘Icelandic cold’ from Tuesday, January 31. Snowfall is expected in many regions, including Istanbul. Down below are forecast about the snowfall expected to fall in Istanbul.

The country will be under the influence of snowfall in February. February is expected to start very fertile in this regard, and Turkey will get heavy snowfall. However, the disadvantage is that the country will be under the influence of very cold air from Iceland. A cold air wave is coming from Iceland to Turkey.

An expert shared following in regards: “snowfall will be effective in the eastern regions. It is expected that the snow thickness in the eastern regions will reach 100 centimeters in places. There will be heavy snowfalls in the eastern regions for 4 days, from time to time it will be in Kayseri, from Erzurum to Hakkari, same region may even see a snow thickness of 60-100 centimeters.

The temperatures will drop in Ankara and in different regions. Snow is expected in Ankara and Konya region as well on Monday evening. We will see very heavy snowfalls in the western regions between February 3 and February 8. Accordingly, snowfall may be effective in Ankara, Bolu Inner Aegean and even Izmir. On Tuesday, heavy snow will fall in Bursa, the heights of Sakarya and Uludag.”

As for Istanbul, we will see rain in Istanbul on Tuesday first, snow will be seen again in some districts at night. The rain will continue on other days as well. There is a very high probability of snowfall in Istanbul between February 4 and February 8. However, we do not have clear info about the intensity or the force of this snow and how it will affect which districts, yet. In the meantime, there will be rain at intervals of 7-8 days. If this realizes as expected, it will affect the occupancy rate of the dams by 10 percent.”
