After the call of President Tayyip Erdogan and Devlet Bahceli on municipalities to reduce VAT on water, the IMM President Ekrem Imamoglu replied with an interesting comment.

Imamoglu made a statement on the issue on social media with an ”important information“ note, and said: “VAT reduction on water was already made at a rate of 7%, but the cost of water supply to Metropolitan Municipalities increased by more than 100% in 1 year. Put your electricity, natural gas and water bills side by side, let our nation decide which bill needs a discount.”

IMM’s implementation of the ‘humanitarian right to water’ was blocked According to the decision taken by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly in 2019, 0.5 cubic meters of every 2.5 cubic meters of water consumed in a household in Istanbul was given free of charge within the scope of the “Human Right to Water”. In the Audit Report of the Turkish Court of Accounts for 2020, the application of the “Right to Human Water” was found to be contrary to the legislation and was stopped as of December 14.
