Increase in milk price: 16 liras at grocery stores

The price of retail milk and dairy products has risen again. A liter of milk, the cost of which was 8 TL, was bought from the manufacturer for 5.70, while in grocery stores it went up to TL 16. The ones who benefit are industrialists and not the farmers.

Milk and cheese prices are sky rocketing. With the recent increase in the price of retail milk and dairy products, the price of a liter of branded milk sold in grocery stores has increased to 15.95 TL. At the beginning of the year, the price of a liter of half-fat milk with a known brand, which was 8 liras reached 12 liras.

GROCERY PRICES ARE TWICE AS HIGH AS ANNOUNCED BY TURKSTAT

Official data of the Turkish Statistical Institute also revealed that milk and dairy products have increased by 40 to 54 percent in the last year. Accordingly, in March 2022, prices for cheddar cheese increased by 40.4 percent to 70.2 TL, cream cheese increased by 43.8 percent to 51.4 TL and feta cheese increased by 54 percent to 44.4 TL compared to the same month of the previous year. But these are the average prices throughout the country … and the prices for cheese in grocery stores are almost twice as high as the average prices shared by TURKSTAT (Turkish Statistical Institute)

TZOB: THERE MAY BE SERIOUS PRICE INCREASES IN THE SUMMER

Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB), warned in a statement: “In fattening livestock, the meat feed parity is against the producer with 15.25. When the manufacturer sells one kilogram of carcass meat, he should be able to get at least 20 kilograms of feed. According to this parity, the price of carcass meat, which is 87 TL, should be around 110 TL. It should be noted here that since the dairy enterprises are shrinking, the fattening producer will have difficulty finding animals. If measures are not taken to ensure production, we may see serious price increases in meat and dairy products in the summer.”
