Istanbul Covered in Snow… “Visibility” Reduced

Snowfall that began in Istanbul yesterday continued to intensify during the night, covering side streets in white and turning the city into a winter wonderland. As the snowflakes fell, residents ventured out to play snowball fights in the streets.

The heavy snowfall continued throughout the night, with people gathering in the streets and parks to dance in circles and play in the snow. Teams worked overnight on the TEM highway and D-100 motorway to salt the roads and clear the snow.

Visibility Reduced

Due to the heavy snowfall, drivers on the TEM highway and D-100 motorway faced difficulties moving forward with their vehicles. In Sarıyer district, where the snowfall became more intense, visibility dropped significantly.

Snow on Iconic Landmarks

As the snow continued to fall intermittently across the city, iconic landmarks such as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, the front of Dolmabahçe Palace, Taksim Square, Hagia Sophia Mosque, Eminönü Mosque, and the Maiden’s Tower in Üsküdar were covered in snow, creating postcard-worthy scenes.

Tourists at Sultanahmet Square enjoyed snowball fights and took souvenir photos. Despite the snow, fishermen continued to fish on the Galata Bridge.
