Istanbul hosts 16 million 51 thousand foreign visitors in 11 months
According to the data announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul hosted 16 million 51 thousand foreign visitors in the first 11 months of 2023, with an increase of 9.09% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In November, the highest number of foreign visitors to Istanbul came from the Russian Federation with 135 thousand, followed by Germany with 89 thousand, Iran with 88 thousand, the United States with 61 thousand, the United Kingdom with 51 thousand, Saudi Arabia with 48 thousand, and France with 43 thousand.
Among the Arab countries, in terms of foreign visitors to Istanbul in November, Saudi Arabia ranked first, followed by Iraq, Algeria, and Morocco in the third position. Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, and Tunisia followed Morocco.
First choice: Istanbul Airport
The first choice for foreign visitors to Istanbul in November was Istanbul Airport.
Istanbul Airport, which hosted 11 million 258 thousand foreigners in the first 11 months of the year, was preferred by 905 thousand foreign visitors in November. Istanbul Airport accounted for 72.67% of the total number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul by air in November.
While 4 million 384 thousand foreigners entered through Sabiha Gökçen Airport in 11 months, this number was 339 thousand in November. Sabiha Gökçen Airport became the second busiest entry point for foreign visitors to Istanbul by air, constituting 27.22% of foreign entries.

The number of foreigners arriving in Istanbul by sea in November was 43 thousand.

According to the latest accommodation statistics published by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of arrivals at Ministry-registered facilities totaled 1 million 224 thousand in October of this year.
While a total of 2 million 711 thousand overnight stays were recorded in these facilities, the average length of stay was 2.22 days.
The occupancy rate of accommodation facilities in Istanbul in October was 56.78%.
