Istanbul Municipality talks to 600 hotels to arrange accommodation for health workers

Ekrem IMAMOGLU, the mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality explained measures taken for Istanbul regarding the coronavirus outbreak.  The mayor drew attention to the point that Turkey had to protect the families of health workers and said they had talked to managements of 600 hotels in the city and reached agreements to provide accommodation for health workers so they would not have to home, thus protecting their families from the epidemic. He also added said hotels would preferably be located within walking distances to hospitals.

On the other hand the mayor shared following:

“We have done our technical work about what to do in case the epidemic further spreads and decided to use some of our facilities as field hospitals, if need be

It will be possible to prepare a tent hospital with 1000 beds at Yenikapı as the first stage and we could extend the capacity to 7000 beds as due.

We work with our other municipalities to see what we can do in Istanbul. Certainly we share a number of areas, with our Ministry of Health”.
