Loss of life in devastating earthquake in Turkey reaches 47 thousand 932

Murat KURUM, Minister of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change has reported that the loss of life in the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes has reached 47 thousand 932. KURUM who also provided information about the damage detection studies carried out, noted that the studies were completed in Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Adiyaman, Kilis and Osmaniye.

On February 6, two large earthquakes of 7.7 and 7.6 centered in Maraş had directly affected millions of people in 11 provinces. Minister of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change Murat Kurum, who made statements about the latest situation in the earthquake zones in Gaziantep after the National Risk Shield Meeting, reported that the number of those who lost their lives had exceeded 47 thousand.

Stating that the damage detection works had been completed in Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Adiyaman, Kilis and Osmaniye, KURUM said that 96.6 percent of the destroyed buildings were pre-99 buildings.
