Mayor Imamoglu: “I’m setting out to defend Istanbul once again”

“I’m setting out to defend Istanbul once again,” said IMM President Ekrem Imamoglu, answering journalists’ questions. He added, “I didn’t say I was a candidate.” I said “I’m setting out on the road.”

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem Imamoglu who called for a ‘change’ in the CHP (main opposition party) after the Presidential elections in May, held a press conference at the Haliç Congress Center. He made some very important statements in his speech, here.

Imamoğlu said,”I am setting out to defend Istanbul once again against the looting of our city, injustice and environmental massacre. As it has been for four years, I am setting out to provide equal services to 16 million. I am setting out to create a prosperous city that eradicates poverty. I am setting out to host all the technological innovations of the world in order to put participation and common sense at the center,” he said.

Answering questions from journalists, Imamoglu stated that he was not a candidate. He said, “I did not say I was a candidate, I said I was setting out on the road.”

“CHP CANNOT BOAST OF BEING THE SECOND PARTY”

The CHP can’t lose elections anymore, it shouldn’t lose. The CHP cannot boast of being the second party, it should not boast. It is imperative that the social and political opposition led by the CHP wins the local elections at the same time. CHP members are obliged to act with their consciousness with this high desire to win. We must also win city councils together. Our entire organization has to complete this change process in harmony and work, together.

Change, transformation is also a deep-rooted squad operation. It covers many issues from the chairman to the management, from the member structure to the party elections. Renewal, change, transformation are of course not easy, but we have to achieve it. There is a significant risk that the disappointment of our nation after the election will become permanent. This risk is an obstacle to winning the upcoming local elections. The most important danger that our democracy is essentially facing is the ingraining of the despair of our nation. It is a very big threat. As a member of my party, I will continue to contribute to this transformation in the most meaningful and effective way.

I am setting out to defend Istanbul once again against the looting of our city, injustice and environmental carnage. As it has been for four years, I am setting out to provide equal services to 16 million. I am setting out to create a prosperous city that eradicates poverty. I am setting out to host all the technological innovations of the world in order to put participation and common sense at the center. As in 2019, I am coming to build the Istanbul alliance again in the strongest way with my CHP comrades, my dear fellow countrymen who give their hearts to different parties, Istanbulites, volunteers who take care of their city, take care of the game. I also invite Istanbulites and all my compatriots to this march.
