It has turned out that the Meat and Dairy Corporation (Et ve Süt Kurumu) aims to reduce queues experienced in red meat by raising the sale price of red meat by 48 percent. The institution will also raise the carcass meat that it receives from the manufacturer very soon.

It was expressed by an officials of the company that the long queues had formed because they sold meat 66 percent cheaper than the market, and this hike had become inevitable. The same official also said “For this reason, we increased the price, but there is still a 15 percent lower price compared to the market. The price of carcass meat was 80 TL, and it was already impossible for us to sell minced meat for 56 TL.”

The official went on to say “We also need to make an increase in the purchase price. We have done studies for this. We presented it to the Minister of Finance and presented it to the Price Stability Committee. According to the decision that came out of there, there will also be an increase in the purchase price. And we already buy the meat we need as cut meat from the market. We are opening a digital – electronic tender on this issue. We buy meat at a weight of 78 -79 TL.”

ESK sells 500 tons of meat per month

Reminding that they sell about 500 tons of red meat per month as an institution, the official gave the following information about sales: “Most of our sales are to the Ministry of National Defense and the General command of the Gendarmerie. We have very little on the market. We have 18 sales stores across the country. Our monthly red meat sales are 500 tons. That’s 6 thousand tons per year. We don’t sell to chain stores.”

No need for importation

Recalling that the Meat and Dairy Institution is constantly conducting price research both inside and out,  the official said there was no need to import meat at the moment and there were enough animals and meat inside.  He went on to say, “Imports are not cheap. No need to import. Despite our rising prices, it is 15 percent below the market. No need to import.”
