Member of the scientific board: Omicron peak can be expected until first two weeks of February

A member of the scientific committee said that the epidemic would peak in the first weeks of February due to the Omicron variant. The number of cases per day almost tripled in 14 days, reaching the level of 70 thousand. PCR and vaccine queues in hospitals continue.

Professor Şener, speaking to the IHA (News Agency), stated that he did not find it correct to reconcile the increases in variant-related cases with the measures, and that serious case increases have been recorded in countries with high vaccination rates.

The professor said, “Omicron goes hand in hand with Delta and Delta Plus variant”, stressing that the escalation of cases would continue in Turkey, but not all of them were Omicron. He also said “From our point of view, this situation is especially dangerous for another few weeks.”
