Meteorology issues snowfall warning for Antalya

According to a warning from the Meteorology Regional Directorate, snow is expected in Antalya to be effective from tomorrow evening. It was noted that the last time snow fell on areas near the coast in the city was in 1993.

In the tourist city of Antalya, where temperature records were broken in the summer, the air temperatures, which were above seasonal norms, have begun to fall since the middle of last week.

Temperatures are expected to drop another 6-7 degrees as of today, falling below seasonal norms. As the air temperatures drop, snowfall will be effective in the coastal parts of the city from tomorrow evening, it was reported.

SNOW LAST SEEN IN 1993

The last time it snowed in the city was on January 7, 1993, and the thickness of the snow reached 5 centimeters.

WARNING FROM METEOROLOGY

In a statement from the Regional Directorate, the following statements were made: “It is estimated that the expected precipitation in Antalya will be observed as sleet and snow in coastal areas and snow in places with altitudes of 70 to 100 meters and above from the evening and night hours of January 24, 2022. The precipitation is expected to be light snow (2 to 6 cm) in the coastal parts of the city and in the west, heavy snow (over 20 cm) in the inner parts of the east (Ibradi, Akseki and Gundogmuş circles and the heights of Manavgat, Serik, Alanya and Gazipasa). It is expected that the snowfall will lose its effect after the morning hours of Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

It is estimated that  there may be negativity such as icing, frost events and transportation disruptions due to them. It is necessary that our citizens and interested parties be careful and cautious.”
