AUSTRALIA CLOSES BORDERS AGAINST COVID

Australia’s borders could remain closed to foreigners in 2022, as well. The Minister of Trade and Tourism has announced that the borders are planned to be closed to visitors until late 2022, even if most of the population is vaccinated against Covid-19.

The decision followed growing cases around the world and new variants, particularly in India.

Borders could open midway through the second half of next year

“It is very difficult to determine when the borders will be reopened” Trade and Tourism Minister said in a statement adding “The best forecast would be in the middle of the second half of next year.”

According to Euronews, Australia has closed its borders to foreigners since March 2020, except for its own citizens, foreigners who have settled in the country and their families, as well as persons on special leave, in order to prevent transmission of the outbreak.

Likewise, Australian citizens need permission to leave the country. In addition, 14-day quarantine isolation practice continues.

In Australia, the number of cases since the outbreak began is 29,893 and the loss of life is 910.
