PROTESTS IN IRAN

More than 300 people, including security forces, have reportedly been killed in the country’s two-and-a-half-month-long protests. The Irshad Patrols that detained Mahsa Amini before her death, which led to the ignition of the fuse of the protests that have been going on for more than two months throughout Iran, have been dissolved.

The organization, known as the morality police in everyday language, was established in 2006 by then-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in order to spread the culture of chastity and hijab.

Iran’s Prosecutor General Mohammad Jafar Muntazeri said the morality police were not part of the judicial system and had been abolished, ISNA news agency reported.

A day before the announcement, Muntazari had said that the Parliament and the Supreme Council of the Revolution under the Presidency were working on the issue of the headscarf and that the result would be announced soon.
