Taksim Solidarity Platform set to “enter” Gezi Park on Saturday again

It is reported that Taksim Solidarity Platform is set to “enter” Gezi Park on Saturday, July 6, despite blockade by police.

The platform is reported to have announced that the notice of the Istanbul first Regional Court’s June 6 decision which canceled the controversial Taksim project, to include the Artillery Barracks project, will be served in Gezi Park

Taksim Solidarity Platform maintains that Taksim Square pedestrianization and the Artillery Barracks projects have lost their legal grounds following court decision. The group have made a strong statement saying “We have not given up our demands and gains,” and called on all Gezi protesters to meet in Taksim at 7 p.m. to show solidarity.

Turkish energy minister says cooperation with Egypt will not be interrupted

Energy Minister YILDIZ who came together with the representatives of energy sector in Izmir following Wednesday’s military coup in Egypt, stated that the energy transmission system of Egypt with the neighboring countries would not be harmed.

The Minister also reminded that Turkey had taken over the energy distribution project covering 8 countries also including Egypt, and said, “We have an interconnection with 8 countries involving Egypt too, so this is a mission taken over by Turkey regarding structuring of transmission lines from Syria to Egypt. This master plan, the interconnection of 8 countries, would be made by Turkey, We don’t think any disruption would occur in this interconnection.”

Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan slams West for not calling Egypt army intervention a ‘coup’

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is reported to have criticized Western nations, particularly the European Union, for not showing strong reaction to the army intervention in Egypt that overthrew former President Mohamed Morsi and put in place an interim technocrat president to lead the country out of the political standoff.

Erdoğan has also forwarded criticism for not terming the army intervention a “military coup” and said this doesn’t fit into values of the West. The PM also said all coups, no matter where or against whom they take place, are “bad, inhumane and the enemy of democracy.”

 Turkish Government voices strong concern over coup in Egypt

Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the removal of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi from office by the army and the suspension of the constitution has reached a very sensitive stage.

In a written statement, the Ministry said Turkey supported the democratic transition in Egypt that began with the Revolution on January 25 and stood by ‘the friendly and brotherly people of Egypt’ in their march towards democracy.

“We believe it is requisite that the current crisis must be overcome through a societal consensus to be achieved through an approach of dialogue that embraces the concerns and views of all segments of society into account.” said the Foreign Ministry. “It is not possible for any democratic country to comprehend or to accept that an elected.

Coup may hit Turkish exports, deals in Egypt

An ongoing political impasse in Egypt has already started taking its toll on Turkish trade with the country, with hundreds of trucks now being held at ports due to uncertainty in procedures.

A military coup on Wednesday evening brought social, political and economic life to a new standstill in Egypt, with the army closely monitoring operations at borders crossings and ports amid countrywide protests. Hamit Şanverdi from Turkish International Road Transport Union (UND) said late on Thursday that 200 trucks destined for Turkey were being held at Egyptian port customs. “A total of 350 trucks carrying exports to Egypt are also waiting at Turkey’s İskenderun port due to security concerns. … The food products carry the risk of being spoiled due to prolonged delays,” Şanverdi explained. The UND official said around 500 Turkish trucks were also held up in Saudi Arabia as they cannot cross the Egyptian border as easily as before.
