Istanbul Stock Market (Bourse) exceeds 87,000 points to break new record

After some positive developments Turkey has gone through recently, the stock market of Istanbul is continuing its journey upwards.

In fact, the stock market broke a new record on Thursday, exceeding 87,000 points for the first time in its history in the closing of the morning session. Shares traded on BIST gained more than 1 percent in value. The top closing value ever reached before Thursday was January 24 with 86.787.

The upward trend in the Turkish stock market came largely as a result of the expectation of a credit rating upgrade to be made by ratings agencies.

Turkish Minister says Turkey is hosting nearly 400,000 Syrians

Turkish Deputy PM Atalay who attended the 3rd Arab-Turk Social Sciences Congress said Turkey was hosting nearly 400,000 Syrian citizens.

The Minister delivered a speech and stated that Turkey was currently hosting about 400,000 Syrians who fled from the crisis in their homeland. Mr. Mohammed Al-Madhoun, Palestinian Minister of Sports, Youth & Culture also delivered a speech and said Turkey was always a most reliable friend adding Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Gaza was very important.

Turkey expects 33 million tourists and revenue of US $ 31.5 billion in 2013

The president of TÜRSAB (The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies) is reported to have said that they forecast to host 33 million tourists and earn revenue of US $ 31.5 billion in 2013.

It is recorded that tourism revenue in the first quarter of the year has already reached the highest peak seen in Turkey’s history and the sector has been enjoying an early spring. During the first quarter of 2013 the tourism revenue has reached 4.918 billion, a record in the country’s history which corresponds to an increase of 39.6 percent compared to figures from the first quarter of last year.

Energy Minister YILDIZ says new nuclear plant will be partly state-owned

It has been stated by Turkish Energy minister YILDIZ that part of the new nuclear plant to be built in Sinop will be owned by the state.

After a meeting with a delegation from Niger held a press conference, Yıldız made important statements regarding the new nuclear plant to be built. He said, “Public Sector involvement in the construction of Akkuyu power plant was limited; however, now, public sector will be a partner in the construction of nuclear power plant in Sinop province”.

Regarding the third nuclear project the Minister was reported to commented as “We surely don’t know where the place of third nuclear power plant is but we will determine the place among four or five different options.”

Turkey is holding big tenders for huge projects like nuclear plant, airport and railways

Turkey, a major spot of attraction for global business groups is about to finalize tenders for giant projects such as third airport and a key port in Istanbul, nuclear plant on Black Sea coast and privatization of railroads.

Among those, the tender for the third airport in Istanbul is set to be made at Ankara Esenboğa Airport tomorrow. The tender has been valued at around 7 billion euros ($9 billion) by Transport Minister Binali Yıldırım and 15 Turkish and two foreign companies have bought the tender specification document so far.
