Not good news for 32 million households in Turkey: Citizens will have to pay the bill for the exchange rate difference in electricity

The multi-stage electricity tariff, which will be applied from January and the increase applied to the industry in the energy sector, will be distributed to millions of households.

In the electricity market, which will gradually switch to the multi-stage tariff starting from the beginning of the year, electricity bills of households will increase. According to the new regulation, subscribers whose monthly electricity consumption is around TL 110-130  will benefit from a reduced tariff.

Among the residential subscribers, who have a total of 38 million units, the number of those who consume this amount is 6 million, only. The remaining 32 million subscribers will see the exponentially increased cost, due to exchange rates, in bills. These subscribers will also subsidize both the cost of electricity and operating losses. So far, this cost has been reflected in industrial electricity.
