Number of certified hotels in Turkey rises from 22 to 81 in five days with 321 waiting in queue
It is reported that the number of certified hotels in Turkey rose from 22 on June 8th to 81 in five days as part of the Healthy Tourism certification program. Over 300 hotels are waiting in the certification process. Antalya is reported to rank first in Turkey with 31 certified hotels and 149 applications.
Launched under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, “Healthy Tourism Certification Program is one of the first examples in the world and organized under 4 categories such as hotels, restaurants and cafes, airports, tour and transfer tools. In this framework a certificate is issued to verify the establishments conform to required rules of health, hygiene and social distancing in terms.
The documents are submitted to the companies and organizations as a result of audits on the applications after inspections made by 10 authorized companies approved by the Turkish accreditation agency (TURKAK) and the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE).
According to the Ministry’s data, applications were received from 401 hotels and 50 restaurants/cafes throughout Turkey as of 13 June under the Healthy Tourism certification program and 81 hotels and 11 restaurants were given a “Certificate of Healthy Tourism”. Inspection processes for other hotels, restaurants/cafes whose applications have been received are continuing. It is also reported that many applications are made to authorized accreditation bodies for said documents.
Antalya is observed to rank first in Turkey with the number of hotels both with applications and documents given. The number of hotels in Antalya with 149 applications has reached 31 with following certified facilities.

Akka Hotels andeton, First Class Hotel, Gold Island, Goldcity Hotel, Rubi Platinum SPA Resort Suites, Syedra Princess Hotel, Xpreia Saray Beach Hotel in Alanya. Shah Inn Paradice Resort In Kumluca.
In the list of certified hotels until June 13, Istanbul ranks second with 61 applications and 14 hotels. Concerned list is as follows: Akgun Istanbul hotel Eresin Sultanahmet hotels, Taksim, Istanbul&Premier Hotel, Hilton Istanbul Bomonti, Istanbul, Florya Crowne Plaza, Dedeman Bostancı Hotel Hilton Bosphorus Hilton Istanbul Kozyatagi, Nidya Hotel Esenyurt, Istanbul Radisson Blu Valley, Radisson President Hotel, Beyazıt, JUL European Residence, Radisson, Ramada Istanbul Asia by Wyndham, Sheraton Istanbul Atakoy hotel, the document was the area hotels.
In Mugla following hotels have already received the certificate: Hilton Bodrum Türkbükü Resort & SPA, Bodrum Hotel & SPA, Club Resort Select Maris, Duja Bordum, Lux Bodrum Resort, Rixos Bodrum Hotel, Rixos Premium Gocek, the Bodrum Edition.
The Healthy Tourism document defines a wide range of new measures, from accommodation to eating and drinking facilities, from health status of facility employees to those of guests as well as preparation for the period when the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic will end, meeting the consumer Covid-19 contamination concerns, high hygiene and safety needs to be done to meet the expectations etc.
With the marking system to be placed on certificates, all customers will be able to see the inspection history of their facility transparently. Some of the monthly audits will be informed and some will be spontaneous. From time to time, auditors will stay on the premises as confidential customers and examine the measures taken on-site.
