OECD Report: Turkey ranks at the bottom in “Education Investment”

According to a new report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Turkey ranks 38th out of 40 countries in terms of expenditures on upper-secondary education (high school).

According to int’l media, the OECD report states that Colombia, Mexico, and Turkey spend less than $5,000 per student annually, while Luxembourg’s spending is nearly at the $25,000 level. The average annual expenditure per student in OECD countries is around $11,400 for high schools and $13,200 for vocational schools.

TURKEY SPENDS LESS THAT $50,000 PER STUDENT ANNUALLY

Primary and secondary education is compulsory in most OECD countries. The average expenditure per student between the ages of 6 and 15 is $112,000 in OECD countries. Austria, Denmark, Iceland, Luxembourg, and Norway spend over $150,000 per student annually during these years, while Colombia, Romania, and Turkey spend less than $50,000.

The report highlights the significant role played by governments in financing primary and secondary education in OECD countries. In 2020, private financing accounted for around 9% of primary and secondary education funding, whereas in Turkey, this figure exceeded 20%.
