Only one of two houses in Turkey have compulsory earthquake insurance

It is reported that only 52.70 percent of the 20 million 32 thousand houses in Turkey have compulsory earthquake insurance. 9 million 470 thousand 258 houses could face an earthquake without insurance.

An earthquake is the most common type of disaster in Turkey. Compulsory earthquake insurance has been in force since September 27, 2000, but participation is still not at the desired level.

According to the data of the Natural Disaster Insurance Agency (DASK), Marmara with 6 million 840 thousand houses, is the region with the greatest interest in earthquake insurance.

Compulsory earthquake insurance is available for 4 million 265 thousand 218 houses in Marmara at a rate of 62.40 percent.

Rates in metropolitan areas

Istanbul has the highest insurance rate among metropolitan cities with a rate of 62 percent.

This figure is 56.30 percent in Izmir, 56.10 percent in Ankara, 55.70 percent in Bursa and 51.3 percent in Antalya.
