In Belgium, it has become mandatory to provide an allowance of 0.27 euros per kilometer to those who commute to work by bicycle starting from today.

With the agreement made between employers and workers’ representatives within the scope of the National Labour Council in Belgium, it became mandatory to provide bicycle allowances to those who go to work by bicycle.

According to this, employees will receive an allowance of 0.27 euros per kilometer from their employer if they commute to work by bicycle starting from May 1. This allowance will be tax-exempt.

An employee’s daily bicycle allowance will not exceed 40 kilometers. Thus, the bicycle allowance will be limited to 10.8 euros per day.

Until now, employers were titled to decide on the granting of the bicycle allowance in question. About 30 percent of the employers made payment to their employees using bicycles according to the distance between their homes and their workplaces.
