Photo Editor program called picnik.com, Google+ and a marketing mistake

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

picnicWhile surfing on the net a short time ago , I came across a wonderful online photo editing program called PICNIK.COM. This program has amazing features to help creat wonderful pics. Yet, the problem is that the website is going to close down on April 19th 2012 as it is bought by Google and people are supposed to be using it with Google plus under Creative Kit name after that date.

Well, so far so good.. We all use Google anyway so we can benefit from said program thanks to the internet giant.

However, when you start reading the posts in forums, you are extremely disappointed with the comments made (90 percent negative)..

People are very much upset that Google has made available only “limited” features of the program originally offered by picnic.com before it is closes. Obviously users would like to be able to benefit from all features they have been using so far.
and they simply cannot grasp why Google would grab such a popular program used by many and simply downgrade it to deprive the users of all those original features offered by picnik.com

After having read the bitter comments in forums and judging on our experience in marketing as well as international marketing stories such as the Cola Wars, we believe this mistake (although it might seem not big enough to disturb the internet giant) should not be underestimated by Google executives and they would take necessary action not to deny their users full benefits of such a popular (and wonderful) program.

The important point here is professional programs such as FIREWORKS are far too expensive (USD 1000 or so) and that could be among main reasons for users to be badly attached to picnic.com as the best free online alternative on the net.

Thus, giving this issue a serious thought and taking necessaru action would most probably bring Google not much additional burden and on the contrary it would help to keep many loyal Google users rather than losing them to competitors like Bing and others to come in the future certainly. Mind you, Yandex for instance is pushing real strong in many countries in Europe especially, Turkey being among them, certainly.

The bottom line is regardless of how big a company has become it would be a great failure to ignore the feedback (satisfaction and dissatisfaction) from the customers. Otherwise, companies may have to learn this through bitter experience someday like in the “Coca Cola against Pepsi” case.
