Does Akparti need to make use of the past to keep feet on ground?

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

It is amazing to see how extraordinary skills PM Erdoğan is equipped with when it has to do with making up  a new agenda and shifting the attention of the public to another direction, he would like to. This has often helped the ruling party get through major challenges by changing the point of focus, and thus cooling of the undesired agenda.

In other words we could say the administration does not always tell people what people should really know. Instead they prefer to tell them what they decide for the people to know.

A recent issue brought about by the PM has been the ever-lasting accusation claimed by AKP that the opposition party is willing (and has always done so) to see the army interrupt democracy and  stage a coup against AK Parti government. At least this is what most people would understand from the message conveyed by the PM.

We believe, this allegation would not make much sense if the PM is accusing the current administration of CHP and Kılıçdaroğlu in specific, for what has happened in the past. Actually this comment made by the PM should not be aproblem if  Turks could display the commonsense to realize that  this is not “speaking out” the facts that prevail currently.

However, as many Turks (due to their education level as well as traditions) have the tendency to support a political movement or opinion just like football fans would support a team without questioning it, LOGIC and REASONING may not apply here, much. A strong leader such as the PM himself is able to influence and in a way brainwash and further oreint crowds in the direction he would like to. It goes without saying the element of religion has also been a major influential factor  to contribute to the performance displayed by the current administration and maintain the support achieved, so far.

We find this unfair because majority of these people are not well educated and religion – to be in the first place – as well as some other criticial traditional issues have been used to keep current votes and even increase them.

The current administration, rather than accounting for their performance on many occasions, have chosen the strategy to immediately change the  agenda to distract people’s attention and even relate to “unrelated” issues at that time, to evade criticism forwarded to them.

So, when the PM says;

“Describing the army as ‘unarmed forces’ or a ‘paper tiger’, swearing at its commander because they are not staging a coup, of not interfering into democracy and the national will, has nothing to do with democracy and the universal rule of law. This is the mentality of the CHP and its product of despotic, half-portion intellectuals, something I’ve been trying to expose for years”

Although we would put our signature under the theme stated therein, we cannot say this is a fair comment describing the situation today. Because everybody with a bit of logic knows that CHP today, as well as its leader are absolutely against coups and in fact KILICDAROGLU has personally  voiced  innumerable times that it was indeed CHP that suffered from the latest coup in 1980 – literally in prison – and not AKP which did not even exist at the time.

Thus, when one considers all this solid information, it is not very easy to comprehend the fairness of the effort spent by AKP to relate everything to the past and the negativities Turkey had to go through all that time, to sort of terrorize their supporters saying ”look we are here to save you.. all others are dangerous as seen in the past..  if we go you are done for”.

Settling up with what happened in the past.. that is absolutely acceptable but again, relating everything to it in order to brainwash, influence and orient people out of political ambitions should not be acceptable and there will certainly be a time Turkish people will realize that every little thing to be criticized today can and should not be linked to what ever has happened in the past.

Having read  all this we would not like anybody to have the wrong impression we do not appreciate the positive achievements accomplished by the current government so far such as health reform, transportation, infrastucture improvement, keeping the economy out of trouble and more.

However, we believe and know there is so much to be criticized as well in regards to their practices so far.  We wish they could spend their energy and creativity for the improvement of the country only rather than confrontation with all parties against their ideology and way of thinking.
