Potato prices in Turkey see 342 percent hike in one year

According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the price of potatoes has increased the most among food products, in the last year. The price of 1 kilogram of potatoes in the markets where TUIK shops, prices was 1 lira 90 kurus in April last year. In April of this year, TUIK, which went to the same grocery stores again, found that the price of 1 kilogram of potatoes was sold for TL 8.40.

Although potatoes are sold at much higher prices in many grocery stores, even in TUIK’s grocery stores, the one-year increase rate was calculated as 342.1 percent.

According to TURKSTAT calculations, potato prices have increased by 66.3 percent since the beginning of the year.

EGGPLANT, THE MOST POPULAR FOOD PRODUCT AFTER POTATOES

The price of eggplant sold for TL 5.78 in TUIK markets last April, increased by 267 percent to over TL 21 in April, this year. Other products that are at the top of the hike list are onions, tomatoes, curly, bell peppers, cucumbers, chicken meat, chickpeas, eggs, sugar, flour, pasta, lentils, bread and bulgur.
