Warning to citizens traveling from UK to Turkey for medical purposes

The British Foreign Office noted that there had been an increase in medical trips to Turkey recently, and warned its citizens that 17 people had lost their lives during these trips. With the effects of the pandemic being overcome, Turkey’s share of the $100 billion global health tourism Sunday has risen again.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), based on surveys at the border crossing, the number of tourists who preferred Turkey for treatment in the last 10 months of 2021 reached about 371 thousand.

However, although Turkey is at an important point in medical aesthetics and medical tourism, businesses that are still not in compliance with the procedure in the country pose a risk.

17 BRITISH CITIZENS LOST THEIR LIVES

Based on this, the British Foreign Office also issued warnings to British citizens traveling to Turkey. The Foreign Office said in a statement that 17 British citizens had died as a result of medical procedures in Turkey.

WARNING ISSUED

The Foreign Office reiterated its warnings after 17 Britons treated in Turkey since January 2019, lost their lives. In a statement, it said: “The standard of medical facilities and the treatments applied vary greatly around the world. Therefore, British citizens who are considering receiving medical treatment in Turkey should conduct a thorough research in advance. It is not wise to rely on private companies that have a financial interest in arranging your medical treatment abroad.”

The British Foreign Office, noting the safety of its citizens, said: “We must announce that there have been 17 British citizens who have died in Turkey since January 2019 following medical tourism visits. If you are traveling to Turkey for a medical procedure, you should make sure that the medical facility of your choice is accredited by the Turkish authorities. You can find a list of accredited facilities on the website of the General Directorate of Health Services.”
