NATURAL GAS BOTAS PRICES INCREASE

After Iran cut off natural gas, electricity and natural gas cuts began to be implemented in Organized Industrial Zones (OSB) throughout Turkey. Speaking to Diken from Turkish media, industry sources said that the Ministry of Energy had decided to cut 4,500 megawatts of energy in all of Turkey and that the cuts were not limited to OSBs, but were expected to be reflected in residential areas in the coming days.

On January 17, Iran announced that it would not provide natural gas flow to Turkey for 10 days due to a ‘technical malfunction’, after which BOTAS announced that the amount of gas received had dropped to a third as of January 20, and that it had been reset as of January 20. In addition, it was stated that 72-hour power outage would be applied to OSBs throughout Turkey.

Although Iran turned on the gas as of yesterday, Turkey’s natural gas supply problems continue.

Turkey obtains almost all of its natural gas needs with gas shipped by pipelines from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Algeria, Nigeria and other countries and transported by ships.
