President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended today’s cabinet meeting by video conference. After the meeting, Erdogan announced that curfews imposed over the weekend would continue on the coming weekends. According to this decision the curfew will be in effect between 24: 00 on Friday 17 and 24: 00 on Sunday 19th April.

After the turmoil over the curfew announced hours before midnight last Friday, President Erdogan held a key meeting with ministers. Erdogan said the curfew, which was imposed only at the weekend to prevent citizens from leaving their homes, would be repeated this weekend as well.

The President also shared following:

“We have evaluated the issues on our agenda, especially the corona virus outbreak. Turkey continues its fight against the virus with determination. We are closely monitoring the health, food and security effects of this epidemic, which has taken the world into its grip.

Our country is in a positive divergence in this process. We’re doing well from treating patients to diagnosing them. We have no shortage of doctors’ needs, supplies and medicines. We have no shortage of supplies for our citizens either.

In a country of 83 million such as Turkey, there may be a setback. There can be small delays, distributing what exists etc.. We continue to deliver free masks to every citizen.

We stated that we would establish 2 hospitals with a thousand beds in Yeşilköy and Sancaktepe each, within 45 days. We are establishing a hospital with 100 beds in Hadımköy and 200 beds in Derince. We are also opening our Başakşehir hospital, which has a total number of beds of more than 2 thousand. The number of intensive care beds in this hospital is 456.

We are also making significant progress in bringing the outbreak under control. We are at the top of the world rankings in the number of tests. While we reached 34,456, the total number of tests increased to over 450 thousand.

Our number of discharged patients is close to 5 thousand. Turkey is one of the countries that has brought the epidemic under control, quickly and our country is cited as an example”.
