President Erdogan of Turkey refuses to accept resignation of Interior Minister Soylu

The Presidential Communications Department released a statement saying “Our minister has submitted his resignation request to our president and the president has stated to him that he does not approve this request”.

The Communication Department’s statement was as follows:

Mr. Suleyman Soylu, who was appointed to the position of Interior Ministry immediately after the July 15 coup attempt, has gained the appreciation of our nation with his successful efforts to date.

The determined struggle carried out by our minister has a great role in significantly reducing the action capacity of terrorist organizations in our country. In the same way, our interior minister has always coordinated strongly in the field regarding the work carried out after natural disasters such as earthquakes.

It is a fact that that the outbreak has other dimensions such as health care, food supply and public safety. Our minister has ensured that no problems regarding public security in our country are suffered in this process with his successful work carried out for over a month. The minister has submitted his resignation request to our President and the President has stated to him that he did not approve this request. It is at the discretion of an office holder to submit his resignation, but the final decision rests with the President. The resignation of the minister of Interior has not been accepted and he will continue to serve.
