Prof. Ceyhan: The number of cases described does not reflect the truth

COVID 19 IN TURKEY

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ceyhan has said, “The epidemic has been destined to fate. New variants continue to appear. Every country is doing research, but Turkey is not doing it.” Ceyhan considers the described number of cases unrealistic.

According to a report Ceyhan thinks that Turkey is currently experiencing the fifth wave: “The epidemic is not moving like a straight line. There is a period when cases become stationary, but then there is a period of increase. The number of cases described in Turkey does not reflect the reality. The criteria for conducting tests were complicated. If the test was done as in the old criterion, the number of cases would be five to 10 times this”.

WILL IT STILL BE NECESSARY TO WEAR MASKS?

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca had said last week,  “Don’t worry, our worst days are behind us. Rest assured.” Koca also stated that decisions would be made about the necessity of masks indoors at this week’s meeting of the scientific council.

Experts, reacting to the fact that Koca gave the impression that the ‘epidemic was over’ with his statements, say “the AKP government and the Ministry of Health are gambling with the health of the people.”

NUMBER OF CASES MAY INCREASE WITH NEW VARIANTS

President of the Infectious Diseases Association Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ceyhan stated that the number of cases would increase with the new variants. He went on to say; ”The epidemic is left to destiny. New variants continue to appear. Every country is doing research, but Turkey is not doing it. Therefore, we do not know which variants exist in our country.”
