PROFESSOR DEMIRTAS TALKS ON TURKISH ECONOMY

Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş has said that the government’s policies have led Turkey to disaster, adding, “This road is not the right road”. Demirtas said that the Tansu Çiller government which he called the ’worst economic management in 99 years’, was now in second place.

Global markets have been shaken by the peak inflation data announced two days ago in the United States, while the dollar’s strong stance against other currencies continues. After the policies of the economic administration in Turkey, the dollar / TL, which set records, also exceeded 17.50 and reached its peak in 2022.

Failure to take measures in the face of all these developments has brought Turkey’s five-year credit risk premium (CDS) to new records. CDS also surpassed 900 yesterday, renewing the post-2008 record.

Demirtas, a finance professor said that the government was leading the country to disaster by using methods that did not exist in any economics book. He went on to say, “The government needs to pay attention to CDS. Either they will increase the interest rate, or the exchange rate, the market interest is exactly like that ….”
