Reaction to construction in Bodrum: We are unable to do work

Despite the start of the tourist season in Bodrum, the people of the region react to the ongoing construction. “The season has started, but we are unable to do work due to the construction,” said a restaurant owner in the Gumusluk Karakaya district.

The construction ban, which is normally applied between May 15 and October 15, in places such as especially Bodrum, Marmaris, Datca, Fethiye and other coastlines in Muğla was extended for 1 month due to Covid-19, in order for the continuing construction.

The fact that the ban date was changed to June 17 caused a backlash from citizens.

The citizens say, “Normally, the construction ban would have started on May 15. We were told that construction stopped this year due to the pandemic. The roads are in a very bad condition due to the construction. No one’s coming here. At least 9 construction activities are being carried out here. Our business is completely finished. We only work in the summer season. Artisans have already been hit hard by the pandemic process. And now the construction is hitting us hard.”
