Turkey’s Minister of Health had a press meeting yesterday.  The Minister shared some important information about recent developments in Covid-19 crisis in Turkey. On a question, the Minister stated that the rate of increase in death cases in Turkey had started to drop. He emphasized that the rate of increase in intubated patients had also fallen steadily. Koca stressed that there was no comparable situation with other countries meaning Turkey was certainly doing better.

He went on to say they had started to store a specific drug against the disease before cases were seen in Turkey and many other countries were in the effort to obtain and use the drug. The Minister added Turkey had about 1 million boxes of this drug.

The Minister noted that they had started to use the drug at an early stage of the illness and positive results had been observed. He went on to say, “Many countries still use the drug in intubated cases and our science board has observed that the drug should be given early in the period and not in final stage. This seems to prevent the entry of the virus into the cell”.

The Minister also said, “This drug is made available to citizens for free and this is the only example in the world. We are one of the countries with the strongest health infrastructure in the world. In fact according to the population of European countries, we have at twice as many breathing apparatus in our country”.
