Today, businesses are temporarily shut down in Bodrum and citizens are closed to their homes for social isolation, just like in the whole country, as part of the measures of the covid19 outbreak that affected the world. It is good to know however that the Bodrum municipality which encourages citizens to stay at home during this period, has not failed to remember our dear friends out in the street.

It is reported that the municipal teams have provided 11 thousand kg of dry food and distributed them to animal lover volunteers in neighborhoods to be further given to street animals.

Obviously many businesses, including cafeterias and restaurants, were temporarily closed, as part of the Coronavirus outbreak measures in Bodrum, making it difficult for stray animals to reach food and water. Upon instruction from Bodrum Mayor AHMET ARAS the Veterinary Affairs Directorate teams started to go around neighborhoods in the town to provide food assistance to animal lovers so they could feed the stray animals in streets.

Teams identified feeding points in areas where stray animals were dense. Approximately 11 thousand kg of dry food was provided by the Municipal Veterinary Affairs Directorate in the first place. These packages of dry food were delivered to volunteers across the peninsula. 460 packs (6900 kg) of dog food was delivered to 30 different volunteer points and 282 packs (4230 kg) of cat food were soon released to designated focal points for stray animals.

The mayor of Bodrum made a statement saying, “The world is not just about us. We are in the field with our volunteers for our stray animals. Our citizens should continue to stay at home, but those who have the opportunity in these difficult days should not neglect to leave a cup of water and food in front of the door. Because the world is beautiful with those dear friends”.
